The teams over at OnePlus often release some interesting experiments with software on Android, such as Clipt. Their latest new experiment is called Oneplus Wallpaper, which is an digital wellbeing app that has Live Wallpapers based on the user’s app usage.
Behind every artwork is a lot of paintings and photographs, put together into a final artwork. With every new project I start working on, I try to do things differently in hope that I will find new flavors to put into the mix. To be honest, I find it quite boring to keep doing the same kind of style over and over again without implementing some new seasoning to it 🙂

The brief for OnePlus 5 was different from the rest, with similarities only to the OnePlus X, which featured a solid colored background with a centered object in focus.
I want to express how happy I am to be working with Oneplus Wallpaper. Being able to work with something that reaches such a big audience. Seeing fans queuing to get the device, seeing. The phone being advertised in places like the Times Square, reading your wonderful comments. About my art on the web and to get emails from people just wanting to tell me they like my work. I’m forever grateful. Thank you so much!
When I started working on the wallpapers for the OnePlus 5, I wanted to try something new and fun. I thought I would experiment with macro photography this time, together with my dad, who was currently visiting me in India. We got a bunch of plastic containers which we started pouring acrylic, ink, and mediums into. We captured a bunch of photos of the fluid mix, while it was changing pattern quickly. Many of the photos could be used in various ways, like being wrapped onto 3D surfaces, or mix to look like hot lava and cold winds to complement. The final artwork. However, most of these photos weren’t use. Instead, I created a more refined and subtle style. That was develop to fit the style Oneplus Wallpaper was looking for with this phone.

The final artworks have a greater focus on the individual shapes, blending into its surrounding, barren environment. The focus became the centerpiece, which is abstract, yet easy to grasp. I love how these wallpapers turned out, and I will experiment with this style more extensively in the future.
To start with, the app will feature three different personalized wallpapers. Each wallpaper will have 6 sections, which are essentially distinct categories of apps. Depending on how much the user is using apps, the Live wallpapers will react accordingly.

According to OnePlus, the three designs can be describe as:
- Data-heavy Composition design with shifting tiles, inspired by Piet Mondrian’s Composition II & III.
- Glow, which inspired by the neon lights of future-punk titles like Cyberpunk 2077 and Blade Runner.
- Radial (right), where the different categories blend together in a stunning and soft-toned visual
OnePlus has made some background improvements to ensure the battery life of the smartphone isn’t affect drastically. These live wallpapers will only update only redraw on unlock. And if the user unlocks the smartphone frequently, OnePlus even put a delay.
