Joker: Folie à Deux takes a crack at the origin of The Joker and Harley Quinn’s romance. Which has been explored in some of the best episodes of Batman: The Animated Series and lightly featured in 2016’s Suicide Squad. This movie is supposed to be a “jukebox musical” — you know. Like Moulin Rouge, except it’s about a murderous pair of lovers with unconventional ideas about jokes. It will be out on October 4th.
The teaser unveiled a captivating scene featuring Joker, portrayed by Phoenix, and his love interest Harley Quinn, played by none other than the iconic Lady Gaga, dancing under the moonlight. While fans marveled at the mesmerizing sequence, Desi Twitter couldn’t help but notice a striking resemblance to a similar moonlit dance from the Bollywood classic, Om Shanti Om.
The trailer numbers are great news for Warner Bros. Beating “Barbie” is of note, as that film went on to earn $1.4 billion at the worldwide box office for the studio and was last year’s highest-grossing movie. The original “Joker” surpassed $1 billion in 2019; the sequel is aiming for even higher total given this initial interest and the addition of superstar Lady Gaga to the cast.
